The "Real" Zoo!

Last weekend we went to the petting zoo and froze and this weekend we went to the "real" zoo and had a wonderful time. We went to the Toledo Zoo which is about and hour south of us. It was fun to see Charlie get so excited about everything. My favorite part was just being outside and enjoying 70 degree weather and blue sky. I felt like I was living the American dream pushing a double stroller with two boys!
On a side note, Charlie is absolutely terrified of bees or anything that looks like a bee. We were on our way home from play group last week and he started screaming so I pulled over. Sure enough there was a bee in the car so I got it out. I'm not sure if he got stung or not but it definitely terrified him. Now out of no where he'll start crying if he sees a bee or even sees something that looks like it could be a bee. Poor kid, I hope it's not a life long thing.

Cake Auction!

Our ward had its annual fundraiser for the Young Women camp fund. They had a yummy dinner of Hawaiian Hay Stacks and a cake auction afterwards. Seth and I attempted our first German Chocolate cake and I hope the person who bought it enjoyed it. Our friend Eddie wanted us to go in on a cake with him and his wife so we might have a chance of purchasing one. Both of our limits were $15 so with $30 total we didn't get too far. We bid on almost every cake but we got nothing. Luckily some people were nice enough to let us sample what they won. Next year Eddie! It was a great night, and of course we had a lot of fun!

So, the graduate school sponsors activities for families and on Saturday they held one at Domino Petting Zoo (It's named that because it's across the street from Domino's headquarter, go figure). It was only in the 30's but we have finally reached a point were we really don't know if spring is going to come so we just pretend. We bundled up the boys (one of Charlie's buddies came with us) and headed to the farm. It was really cold but it was nice to be outside and see all the cute baby animals. Seth was unimpressed but I think that has to with the fact he grew up on a farm. The boys had a great time and loved the free pizza. I was sad that the batteries in our camera died when we got there, but at least we got the shot of three boys in our back seat. I always thought we would have to upgrade to a minivan when we had our third child but not anymore:)
Matthew is what they call a thriving child! I took him in for his two month appointment and he weighed 15 lbs and was 24 1/2 in long. That puts him in the 99% for weight and 91% for height. He's also started cooing and smiling all the time. He loves Charlie and always turns his head to find him when he hears his voice. He also loves his mobile. I always believed they were an unnecessary accessory so we have never had one until one of Seth's coworkers gave us one. Matthew loves it! It gives me enough time to get Charlie ready in the morning. I'm not sure how much they cost new but it wouldn't be a bad investment!

Easter!

Our Easter was fun and relaxing. It snowed and they did the primary Easter egg hunt inside the church but it was still fun. It's weird bundling up the boys in coats in April. What happened to global Warming?

Is this April or February?

Matthew is already 7 weeks old. There is something magical about passing that 6 week mark. He has started to settle into a routine and smiles all the time. Charlie is still a non stop talker and loves to play hide and seek. I have been working hard on finishing the "boys" room. Mandy convinced me to paint stars on the wall (the idea came from the Pottery Barn catalog)and they turned out awesome. I was also able to finish their quilts after a million trips to Joanns and a small accidental fire on my stove. The only sad thing in our life right now is the weather. A week ago we had beautiful sunny 70 degree weather and Charlie and I went to the park and got sunburn. Now it is in the 20's and we have had snow flurries the last two days. Any weather is a possibility in Michigan!

Happy April Fools Day!

Seth and I have wanted to do an April Fools Dinner every since we saw some ideas in a cooking magazine. We did it with some of our unsuspecting friends after conference on Sunday. For the main course we served a cake(meat loaf frosted in mashed potatoes), for desert we served hamburgers(cookies with york peppermint patties), and a fruit drink (set jello with fruit). The best moment was when Megan picked up her class and dried to drink from it. It was a great night and the food was actually all pretty good!

Bean X 2!

Seth and I got a taste of real parenting the other day. It was in the evening and Seth was at a meeting and I was home alone with the kids. Charlie had been playing with his bucket full of dry beans when I noticed his nose was running and it was tinted black. I glanced up his nose and didn't see anything but with the help of a flashlight I could tell something was really up there. I didn't really want to pay the $50 co-pay for the emergency so I called Dan Ward,who is in our ward, and who just so happens to be an ear, nose, and throat doctor. His wife told me he was in surgery but she would have him call me. He did and was nice enough to arrange for the ENT on call to just meet us at the front of the hospital. The clinic was all closed up but he led us around back into a room. He tried just sucking the bean out but it was to logged so he had to use some special tools. It was horrible because Charlie was creaming but they finally got the bean out. Then "Kevin" (how he introduced himself to us) announced there was another bean up there. I had had enough so I left the room and Seth stayed with Charlie until they got the second bean out. The good news was that instead of it taking 5 hours and costing $50 we were home in less than an hour and our kind doctor just said goodbye when he was done. Once again I have learned the lesson, it is not what you know, it is who you know. I'm so grateful for everyone who helped us out!
